How welcome bonuses actually work

Wyoming welcome offers come in three structural families. Understanding which you're getting matters more than the headline number.

1. "Bet and get" (DraftKings-style)

You bet a small amount ($5) and receive a much larger guaranteed bonus ($200) regardless of whether the qualifying bet wins or loses. This is the safest offer for new bettors, the realized value is near-certain.

2. First-bet-loss protection (BetMGM, Caesars)

Place a first cash bet up to some maximum ($1,500 at BetMGM, $250 at Caesars). If it loses, you get the stake back as bonus bets. If it wins, you keep the winnings but no bonus. Realized value depends on what your first bet is, you need to actually lose the qualifying bet to trigger the bonus portion.

3. Multi-day no-sweat (FanDuel)

Over ten days, each losing cash wager up to $300/day is refunded as bonus bets, theoretical maximum $3,000. Realized value is highly dependent on betting pattern, most bettors realize $400-800 total, not $3,000.

What "bonus bets" really mean

Crucial fine print that new bettors miss: bonus bets do not return stake when they win. If you place a $25 bonus bet at +100 and it wins, you get $25 back, not $50. Only the profit returns; the stake itself is not part of the payout.

What this means: a $200 bonus bet package at typical odds has realized cash value of roughly $140-160, not $200. Factor this into your evaluation of any welcome offer.

Other common bonus-bet restrictions:

  • 7-day expiration. Use them or lose them. Some books run 14-day bonuses during holidays.
  • Minimum odds. Usually -200 or longer (bonus bets won't settle on heavy favorites like -500).
  • One-time use. You can't split a $25 bonus bet across two wagers.
  • Market restrictions. Occasionally excluded from certain parlay or SGP markets, check terms.

Ongoing promos, odds boosts

Every Wyoming sportsbook runs daily odds boosts, pre-selected markets offered at enhanced prices. These are the highest-EV ongoing promos once you're past the welcome bonus.

  • Caesars publishes 100+ daily boosts, the most of any Wyoming book, though individual boosts are smaller.
  • BetMGM Lion's Boost, one boosted parlay per day, usually 4-6 legs, at meaningfully improved odds.
  • DraftKings Same Game Parlay Boosts, SGP tickets at enhanced pricing, rotated daily.
  • FanDuel Profit Boosts, token-based boosts (10%, 25%, 50%) applied to a wager of your choosing.
  • Fanatics Merch Boosts, odds enhancements tied to team merchandise promos.

Parlay insurance

Parlay insurance refunds part or all of your parlay stake when one leg loses. Offered intermittently across all five books, most commonly on:

  • 4+ leg NFL parlays
  • Same-game parlays during playoffs
  • NBA SGPs on nationally televised games

Insurance typically returns the stake as a bonus bet (not cash) if exactly one leg loses. Useful protection for high-variance multi-leg tickets.

Referral bonuses

DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, and Caesars each run refer-a-friend programs that reward both sides when a new user signs up via a friend's referral link and deposits. Typical payouts are $50-100 in bonus bets for the referrer and an additional bonus for the referee on top of the standard welcome offer. Referral programs often stack with welcome offers, so if you have a friend who already uses a specific book, ask for their referral code before signing up.

Promo codes

Most Wyoming welcome offers do not require a promo code, the offer is triggered automatically when you register from Wyoming and make a qualifying deposit. A handful of affiliate-specific codes unlock slightly different or enhanced welcome terms; the base offer remains the state-default value. Promo codes for ongoing promotions are surfaced in-app under "Promotions" and do not require entry elsewhere.

How to evaluate a Wyoming welcome offer

Three questions to ask before claiming any bonus:

  1. What does the offer require me to do to unlock full value? (First bet? Ten days of bets? Lose the first bet?)
  2. What's the realistic realized value? Not the headline number, what you actually cash out.
  3. What are the minimum odds and expiration windows on the bonus bets? A $200 bonus that expires in 7 days at -200 minimum odds is very different from $200 at +100.

For most new Wyoming bettors, DraftKings' Bet $5 Get $200 has the cleanest realized-value profile. BetMGM's $1,500 offer is the headline king but only pays full value on a very specific betting pattern.
