Wyoming Downs
Wyoming's flagship live racing venue, hosting Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse meets each summer. Also operates simulcast wagering and Historic Horse Racing terminals year-round.
Wyoming's only live race track
Wyoming Downs is the state's flagship live racing venue and the only Wyoming-licensed operator that hosts an annual race meet. Located in Evanston in the southwest corner of the state, the track runs Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse cards each summer, traditionally across June through August. Local Quarter Horse breeders and racing fans treat the meet as the centerpiece of the Wyoming horse-racing calendar.
Historic Horse Racing, the year-round product
Live racing accounts for a small fraction of Wyoming Downs' total handle. The majority of activity year-round comes from Historic Horse Racing terminals at the Evanston facility and at Wyoming Downs OTB locations across the state. Per the most recent Wyoming Gaming Commission report, Wyoming Downs handled $77,602,262 in HHR wagers in March 2026, roughly 31.8% of statewide HHR action and second-largest among the three licensed operators.
For an overview of how HHR works, see our HHR explainer.
Simulcast wagering at Wyoming Downs
Wyoming Downs offers simulcast wagering on US and select international race cards year-round at its OTB venues. Simulcast handle is small in absolute terms (roughly $84,000 in March 2026 across all WD locations), reflecting the broader trend that simulcast has been displaced by online ADW for most retail customers. It remains popular with patrons who prefer in-person wagering or want to combine a meal and a card at the venue.
The annual live race meet
The Wyoming Downs live meet typically runs across summer Saturdays and select weekdays. Card composition mixes Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse races, with purses subsidized in part by HHR revenue distributions to the Wyoming Breeders' Fund. Specific dates, post times, and stakes-race schedules vary year to year and are best confirmed via Wyoming Downs' direct communications shortly before each season opens.
How to bet Wyoming Downs races
- On-site at Evanston, the simplest path during meets. Pari-mutuel windows accept all standard wagers (win/place/show plus exotics).
- Via simulcast at Wyoming Downs OTB locations across the state.
- Online via licensed ADW platforms. Most national ADWs, TVG, TwinSpires, Gameplay, carry Wyoming Downs cards during the live meet. Confirm coverage with the platform before the meet starts.
Bet types available
Wyoming Downs cards offer the full range of pari-mutuel wagers, from straight bets (win, place, show) to exotics (exacta, trifecta, superfecta) and multi-race tickets (daily double, Pick 3, Pick 4). See our bet types guide for how each works.
Background and operator
