Wyoming online sports betting handle stayed nearly flat month-over-month in May 2026 at $16,886,244, down 1.4% from April. But the operator share landscape kept shifting: DraftKings lost another 5.6 points of share while BetMGM surged to a 15.6% share, its highest since Wyoming launched in September 2021.

BetMGM's biggest month since launch
BetMGM's May share of 15.6% is the operator's highest recorded share in Wyoming since the state's September 2021 launch. Absolute handle jumped 40.8% month-over-month from $1.87M in April to $2.63M in May. Three factors likely combined:
- Kentucky Derby weekend halo. May 2 was the 2026 Kentucky Derby. BetMGM's MGM Rewards program has strong pull among horse-racing-adjacent bettors who cross-shop into sports wagering during Derby week.
- NBA Playoffs run. The Denver Nuggets (Wyoming's regional NBA team) advanced deeper into the playoffs than most preseason expectations. BetMGM's basketball market coverage handled the extended run well.
- Aggressive Lion's Boost parlay pushes. BetMGM ran heavier promo cadence around the NBA playoffs and Stanley Cup semifinals than earlier in the year.
Whether this is a permanent share step-up or a one-month blip depends on July and August handle. NFL preseason kickoff is when share becomes more sticky.
DraftKings' share slide continues
DraftKings lost 5.6 points in May, following the 14-point drop in April. Two consecutive months of share erosion is the longest streak since Wyoming launched. Absolute handle declined 11.9% MoM from $8.99M to $7.92M. The operator remains the largest book in the state by handle, but the gap to FanDuel continues to narrow:
- DraftKings share: 66.6% → 52.5% → 46.9% (Mar → Apr → May)
- FanDuel share: 17.1% → 25.1% → 26.0%
- DK-to-FD handle ratio: 3.88× → 2.09× → 1.80×
If this pace holds, FanDuel could approach parity with DraftKings by Q4. That said, market share in a small state like Wyoming responds quickly to marketing and seasonal factors, so directional projections beyond a quarter are speculative.
Hold stayed elevated at 11.71%
State-wide hold held at 11.71%, close to April's 10.81%. Two consecutive book-friendly months. Per-operator picture:
- DraftKings: 12.27% (up from 10.41% in April, both meaningfully above industry norms)
- FanDuel: 13.10% (essentially unchanged from 11.74%)
- BetMGM: 12.42% (up from 11.24%)
- Caesars: 4.43% (down from 7.43%, well below industry norm)
- Fanatics: 6.20% (down from 11.59%)
Caesars ran the second consecutive month of anomalously low hold, in the 4-7% range. This foreshadowed what became June's negative GGR month at the operator.
Tax and state revenue
May GGR of $1.98M generated $145,565 in state tax due. Year-to-date state sports betting tax revenue through May was approximately $770K across five months.
Looking ahead to June
NBA Finals wrap up in mid-June, and NFL preseason does not open until early August. Absent a Triple Crown-driven horse racing halo, June should track close to May's baseline. We will publish the June 2026 WGC analysis when the Commission releases it in mid-July.
